Humanitarian And Poverty Alleviation Minister Begins Market Sensitization And Engagement Ahead Of The Launch Of The IYALOJA Scheme For Pretty Traders Next Month. Reaches Out To Widows, Poor And Vulnerable In Some Rural Areas of FCT*

*Humanitarian And Poverty Alleviation Minister Begins Market Sensitization And Engagement Ahead Of The Launch Of The IYALOJA Scheme For Pretty Traders Next Month. Reaches Out To Widows, Poor And Vulnerable In Some Rural Areas of FCT*

President Bola Tinubu has a target to reach atleast half the number of poor and vulnerable individuals across Nigeria within the next one year and that is in line with his 8 point agenda which has poverty eradication as piority.

The multi-dimensional poverty is to be addressed through different programs targeted at the Grassroot. The chief driver of this Agenda of Poverty Eradication is the Ministry saddled with the responsibility of Renewing the Hopes of Nigerias daily in their millions.

Residents of the Ushafa community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and many other subrubs played host to the Minister Of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as she engaged market women and petty traders ahead of the launch of the IYALOJA MONIE next month.

This program has the target of reaching at least 1.5 million Nigerians nationwide.

Excitement was palpable in the air as the residents trooped out in their numbers to join the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, as she moved from one petty traders table to the next.

The Minister who left the opulence and glitz of Abuja city centre to reach out to the poor and vulnerable people in Ushafa was pleased with the opportunity to interact with those whom the interventions are meant for.

Newly christened "The Iyaloja Market  Fund," the non interest loan of N50,000 would be given to Phase 1 of market traders, selected from 109 markets across every Senatorial zone in Nigeria. The process of sensitization and enrolment is ahead of the flag off, next month.

Edu said President Tinubu truly means well for the country and had promised to remove Nigerians from multi-dimensional poverty and humanitarian crises. Presently and he is matching words with action.

She also used the occasion to deliver a message of the  Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the residents on various social intervention programmes of President Tinubu's administration, creating avenues for feedbacks where necessary.

Also, at a community engagement, attended by the community's traditional rulers, youths,  women, the aged, petty traders, and physically challenged persons, food, and nonfood items were distributed to poor and vulnerable households as part of her birthday celebrations.

She explained that the food and non-food items presented to them were in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Tinubu, which aims to reduce multi-dimensional poverty in Nigeria. The Minister also used that medium to monitor the inclusion of older  people in the community, who have been captured to be part of the ongoing Conditional Cash Transfer.

Responding, Mabel Imeh Odiegwu, a tailor, Hassan Yakubu a petty trader, and Esther Isa, also a trader said they were taken aback by the presence of the Minister in the Community as such had never happened before there.

They expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the Renewed attention on the poor and vulnerable in the country, noting that with speed of implementation, a lot was going to change for the better in Nigeria. We commend the Minister who spent her birthday with us in our community. "We are convinced that truly the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President is real and has touched us. "

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday approved the establishment of a humanitarian and poverty alleviation trust fund

*FEC Approves Setting Up of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund.*

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday approved the establishment of a humanitarian and poverty alleviation trust fund

as part of the administration’s efforts to cushion the economic hardship on vulnerable Nigerians.

President Bola Tinubu, who presided over the weekly FEC meeting, conveyed the approval to the cabinet members in attendance at the State House.

Dr Betta Edu, minister of humanitarian affairs, who briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, said the fund is expected to garner up to $5 billion annually from Government, Donors, Private sector, Philanthropic individuals and other innovative forms of resource mobilization.

According to Edu, there would be a governing board that would supervise the implementation of the fund.

The minister said the governing board “will involve key stakeholders that are relevant to the process”.

“This is a flexible form of financing that is supposed to help Nigeria adequately respond to humanitarian crises, emergencies and internal displacement challenges as well as adequately address the issue of poverty in Nigeria,” she added.

“This of course is a victory for the poor and indeed, would bring help and succor which the Renewed Hope Agenda stands for.”

She said the council also approved the ratification of the African Charter protocol on the protection of the rights of older persons in Nigeria.

“We have signed up to the African charter and this has made us one of the countries within Africa that has approved that older people be protected and should not be discriminated against at any level,” Edu said.

“this gives older Persons a lot of protection and the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is interested in their welfare and protecting their rights.”

In September, Edu, while speaking on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States announced the setting up of the trust fund. This are some of the implementations of some of the resolutions President and his Delegation reached at UNGA78

Edu said 30 percent of the funding is expected to come from the federal government while the balance of 70 percent is expected from donor agencies, Private sector, other Nations Development partners etc.

According to the minister, the fund would have several governing cadres with a structure that would show accountability and transparency, while reducing bureaucracy in putting up an adequate response to humanitarian challenges in any part of the country.

The aggregation process starts from the community to the political wards, LGAS and State levels after due diligence.

The Social Register verification announced by the minister has coverage across States of the Federation and still counting.

Commencement of new registration will be announced as when due.
For now, those verified and registered in the social register will be the people to receive the payment for the next three months.SUMMARY OF NATIONAL SOCIAL REGISTER BY LGAs

 WHO IS A WOMAN??

A woman is the one who feeds a man with encouragement and ideas

A woman is the one who helps a man to save and invest wisely .

A woman does not run her mouth with sarcasm and insult just to prove a point, rather her words are gracious and can heal a broken heart .

A woman is the one that knows when to talk and to keep Quiet.

A woman is the one that doesn't leak secret.

A woman is the one that is content with what she has, and not the one that sells her self for material things.

A woman is a manager, a caretaker,a womb that can nature and birth destinies .

A woman doesn't do trending things, but she is reserved and has a taste of a Queen.

A woman doesn't look down on any man because of his present state of life and financial status, rather she encourages any man to get better.

A woman is the one that does not just bears babies, but bear ideas and inspiration anytime, anywhere.

A woman  is the one a man can cry on her shoulders and not feel humiliated for doing so nor lose his value .

A woman is not the one that deceive a man just to eat his money, but the one who is honest and sincere in any relationship.

.A woman. Is not the one that makes men feel terrible, but the one a man can run to for comfort.

A woman is the one that will spoil a man with honour  and respect because there lies her strength and integrity .

A woman is an influence, a nation and a helper.

Many are females but only few can be called a woman.

Now ask yourself today,

am I a woman.

MEDIA REPORT ON ELECTION PETITIONS AND THE CREDIBILITY OF INEC

 INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION

PRESS RELEASE

MEDIA REPORT ON ELECTION PETITIONS AND THE CREDIBILITY OF INEC

The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a front page report by The Guardian (Nigeria) newspaper in its edition of Wednesday 18th October 2023 entitled "INEC's credibility sinks as 94% contested posts awaits tribunal". The Commission would have ignored the report if it did not emanate from one of our country's flagship newspapers which has over the years established a reputation for the quality of its stories, incisive analysis, factual accuracy, balance and lately the innovative use of infographics.

However, its report under reference contains inaccurate figures, mix up of pre-election and post-election cases, skewed comparative perspective and a headline that suggests that election petitions draw from the action or inaction of INEC.

First, basic fact check on the information regualrly published by the Commission and available on our website would have shown that in 2023, elections were not conducted in 1,280 constituencies, including 782 State Assembly seats. On the contrary, elections were conducted in 1,491 constituencies across the country made up of 1 Presidential, 28 Governorship, 109 Senatorial, 360 House of Representatives and 993 State Assembly constituencies. Similarly, the claim that State Assembly elections were held in only 28 States of the country is made on the lazy assumption that no such elections were held in the eight States of the federation where executive elections are held off-cycle. As every attentive Nigerian knows, the tenure of legislators is tied to the legislative houses which is a fixed term of four years from the date the Assembly is inaugurated unlike the term of office of the executive which begins from the date they take the oath of office.

Secondly, the report blames the pre-election cases arising from the conduct of primary elections by political parties on INEC. These are intra-party cases involving party members in which they join the Commission and seek for reliefs binding on it. As everyone knows, INEC does not conduct primaries for political parties.

Thirdly, in pursuit of their right under the law, many litigants in Nigeria unfortunately file election petitions over the most improbable cases and later withdraw them or they are dismissed by the tribunals. If the report had taken time to analyse the outcome of the cases decided so far by the tribunals, it would have discovered that out of 1,196 petitions, 712 were dismissed and 179 withdrawn. This means that in 891 cases (74.4%), the tribunals found no merit in the petitions and affirmed the result of the elections conducted by INEC. It is surprising how the mere filing of petitions constitute a blot on the integrity of the recent elections conducted by INEC when in fact they constitute an integral part of the democratic process.

Fourthly, the said report analysed the total number of petitions as if they were filed against the outcome of the election in 94% of all the elective positions without considering details of the cases. Multiple petitions were filed by candidates and political parties as petitioners in a single Constituency. For example, in one State in the South South geopolitical zone of the country, eight petitions were filed challenging the Governorship election out of which seven were dismissed and one withdrawn. Therefore, the number of election petitions filed in respect of all elective offices will certainly outnumber the total number of constituencies/elective offices. To spread them across the constituencies and proceed to calculate the percentage is to count some constituencies several times which is methodologically problematic and statistically illogical.
